The Golden Garter (Rowlands Way, Wythenshawe)

The Golden Garter Cabaret Club was in Rowlands Way, Wythenshawe, Manchester 22 and opened on Monday, October 7, 1968 with Bruce Forsyth supported by The Foggy Dew'O.
 
The club was facing The Civic Centre, Wythenshawe and was formerly a bowling alley. It had a lavish gold and crimson carpet.
 
The resident band was the seven-piece Shep's Banjo Boys. 
 
The club was managed by Mike Robbins (b. Michael Robbins).

Interesting Read Chris I bet you have a few stories regarding in my opinion the best Cabaret Club of it’s time in Manchester.I use to frequent the club in the 60/70/80.Tommy Cooper came out on stage shook his jacket and out came spoons forks knives all kinds of cutlery they all fell onto the stage.He just said that was a great meal.The place erupted with laughter.Roy Orbison brilliant didn’t say much just sang his hits.Manchesters own The Hollies outstanding.What a club the Garter was

2 Comments I can’t believe it.This club was the most iconic club in the country in its heyday.The stars that graced that stage was incredible.I was their the first week to see Bruce Forsyth in 1968 and then a couple of weeks later Dusty Springfield.For me Gene Pitney was the best.Comedians has to be Tommy Cooper and Larry Grayson.I remember when the garter closed in the eighties Jim Davidsons was the comedian they put the price of a pint of lager up to a pound I thought that was the end the world.  Nostalgia great ,never ever be a club like that again.
