Manchesterbeat is pleased to assist those who wish to utilise our resources for research, family tributes, etc.

Please ask to use our resources, we hardly ever refuse.  Ask and we will email our images - many are reduced in quality for the web and we have higher quality originals you can use.

There are some images, etc, which were donated to the site on the basis they are not shared outside Manchesterbeat - only made available for viewing.

Just because it is on a website does not mean it is copyright free.

Manchesterbeat copyright is claimed and to enforce our copyright we have restricted the right-mouse button.  There ways around this, of course, but you are then intentionally breaking copyright.

Will it be possible to use your photo of The Lemon Line on my website SMART www.ninebattles.com and anything else that comes up in the future. We talk about groups that played in the Hastings area in the 60's and 70's. If approved always happy to add a link back to your website. Best regards Alan Esdaile

GREAT SITE! I’m researching a 1964 guitar amplifier I own, made in Whaley Bridge, by Centurion Electronics, maybe you or one of your contacts can help please! It is polka dot and a similar circuit to a Vox AC4.

I can send pictures.

Many thanks in advance,

Matt

PS ( I bought my first bass, a 1963 Höfner President ) from Reno’s on Oxford Road. My dad made a 78 in a booth upstairs at Johnny Roadhouse’s shop, does anyone remember that machine? I later bought a Klira semi there . . . and a Fenton Weill guitar. What treasure!

I've been told they were built in the Drill Hall on New Horwich Rd, Whaley Br...that they were one of the best manufacturers around but they eventually were taken over by a bigger outfit that wasn't enjoying the competition

Do you have information on the "Cabin Club"? My late second cousins Eveline, Gert and Syd Laserson frequented the club, Syd was the unofficial photographer. I inherited a lot of photos taken there and would love to find out more about it, the location, type of club, what took place there etc.

That is one of the things I am trying to find out.

All I know, from inherited photos, is that it existed from the late 40s (I dont know about earlier) and it was clearly in the Manchester area.

I recently saw an old Granada TV Documentary about the early 60s re-development of St. Mary's, Oldham. My wife's family was one of those re-housed when the slums came down. A group (four piece I think) was featured in several scenes and also interviews with the lead singer/guitarist. If anyone can help identify them, or the venue, I'd be grateful if they would me know. Here's the video link....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S97Bqlj8hfA

Hi

I am a published author of books about the UK music business during the 60’s and 70’s. I am wanting to contact Rod Buck Buckley who was in the band Art n Soul and The Wickeds (Heart and Soul on your site), and the start of the Band Barclay James Harvest.  Would you send him my email address and let him know that I’m writing a book on BJH and would like to interview him.

I really appreciate your help.

My brother (John Daniels) was lead guitarist with The Falkons/Derek and the Falkons back in the day.  You have two photos of the group on this website and I was wondering if you could supply high resolution copies on them - these are the only photos in existence as far as I know (unless you've got any others!!).
I'm trying to get John to write his memoirs of the group (how they got together etc.) and good copies of these photos would be great.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Ron

Regarding Kirk Daniels and the Deltas lead singer around 1960 -1962 real name: Harry Morris

I am trying to find out the background of the singer, who may be related to me.

He is listed on this site as dying in 2007, does anybody have more information on his background and if he became a hairdresser in Manchester in the 1960s?

Cheers,

Philip Morris

I'm a member volunteer at Darwen Heritage Centre where we currently have an Exhibition on show '100 year of Darwen Music' 1880's-1980's, would it be possible for you to send me a high resolution copy of the Wynder K Frog photograph from the newspaper ? There is a big Darwen connection with this band and good images are very scarce. We are also working on a book with any profit made going to the Heritage Centre for future projects (we are a registered charity) Anything else for this band would be gratefully received.
Thanks for your help.

I was looking for information on The Magambo Espresso Bar in Manchester, I have just picked up 3 large wire wall masks which I am told came from there, does anyone have any recollection of the masks (see attached photo below) or any photos of the interior? Thanks, Christian

I think if you search under  Mogambo (with an 'O' not an 'A') you will find lots of info. Also if you Google 'Mogambo' there are photos - although not necessarily of the inside. PR

Thank you Pete, it was a typo, yes I have searched and seen that a few people remember Mogambo well, it would be nice to know if any one remembered seeing these masks on the walls
