Delph Primary School, Denshaw Road was built in 1953. To the right hand side of this was a long prefab shed with an asbestos roof. This was used as a canteen where meals were made up and delivered to local schools that did not have their own kitchen. It doubled as a Youth Club and through the 1960s and into the 70s many bands performed here. It includes The Rockin' Vicars, The Stylos and The Vincents. Contrary to urban myth The Hollies did not perform in this venue in 1963 - that was in the then Liberal Club. This building was demolished circa 1997 due to the now recognised asbestos issue. The long site to the side of the school is now a tarmac car park serving the school. In the 1960s the youth club was run mainly by Les Mingham and Enid Kirkbride.
