The Forty Thieves (Manchester)

The Forty Thieves was at 10 Fennell Street off Corporation Street, Manchester 4 and was opposite Withy Grove.

It was an Indian / Pakistani cafe by day on the ground floor and a disco a night in the basement.

It had opened as Al-Kazar on Friday, July 12, 1963 with The Emperors of Rhythm from 7.30pm to 12pm.

I played some all nighters at this place during stint with the Moonrakers.
I think Brian Smedley played lead guitar, hippy days !

Our band The Moonrakers regularly did the Forty Thieves, and we did "all Nighters"
amazing how well and orderly everyone behaved in those days,
It was a lady I think who ran it when we were there, I can remember the Chip butties, It was just around the Corner from the Jungfrau, which we played on a few occasions,
