Explosion

Does anyone remember "EXPLOSION", a night club down town Manchester. 1971-1972?

I remember the disc-jocky was a afro-american.. great guy, great accent, he also had a radio program. I remember some good looking guys. Ozzy was one, a great dancer.

Explosion was a great club on High Street. It was one of Manchester's first Discoteque style venues, different from the likes of Rowntrees and Top of the Town which had gone before.

I can still remember my girlfriend, Janet (now my wife) and her friend Janice on the small stage area, both in tiny hotpants, dancing away to the music.

The building disappeared years ago with the demolition for the Arndale Centre.

Went most Saturdays upto compulsory purchase with my mate Ken Rogers and cousin Ian. Best place for American imports. Brilliant atmosphere and always actors from Granada tv in their. Great night and great dancers.

Jackie was a friend of mine and roped me in to be the judge of Miss Explosion! Me being a minor celebrity in Manchester (played in a M/c band). I became a regular, the music and the atmosphere was always good. Now just a distant memory.

it was my favourite club of that era, i remember scottish steve, huey, rab, eddie cockney john, coke (derek), janice and janine and obviously mike and eunice , i remember seeing the band called hackensack there, another night david essex was there and we all went off to a party afterwards at mikes house, they were the days  :D

I also used to work behind the bar at Explosion and my boyfriend at that time was the bar manager - Nicholas Barton Bates. 
And a couple of the Hair members stayed at my brothers house in Broughton, whilst playing at the Palace Theatre.
I remember Big Mike and Eunice and Jackie but cannot remember Jackie's husbands name. Anyone?

Susan Osman - the DJ you're referring to is Greg Edwards. He recently retired from DJ ing I believe. He used to DJ for Portugal Soul Weekender.

Remember it very well, The music was the best around. Loved the live James Browne tracks etc . Danced all night, with the occasional chill out in the quiet bar listening to soulfull albums. Met an angel there New Year '72 now married 45 years.

I spent every saturday night at The explosion with my friend dancing in our hot pants n long boots i was 18 My favourite record was "War" "what is it good for absolutly nothing" Heres hopeing it comes out again Does anybidy remember Simon Bates DJ ing there ??

I too danced in my hot pants to War , ( What is it good for absolutley nothing ) every saturday night with my girlfriend Yes Simon Bates did do a stint at the explosion He came back with us to my eldest sisters house in Hyde on night My sister was married to Wayne Fontana

Used to go to Explosion 1971, a guy from school Rob Finlayson did the odd DJ spot , his mum was a singer called Blanche, used to have a good rock night on Sunday night. Great club. Tony Flynn
