Club El-Tropicano (Nelson)
Club El Tropicano was in Hisson Road, Nelson, Lancashire. It had opened as a casino in the 60's. The Club El Tropicano was affectionally known as The Trop.

Hi Geoff Thanks for the heads up on the Dip, Forget the War of the Roses, this was the best place compared to anywhere.
We travelled from Keighley to Nelson throughout the sixties and early seventies, Remember a band called Tiny Mo's Children a R&B band when R&B was not the stuff that's out there now, Saw the Beatles at the IMP. later to become the Beer Place. Remember Leo Sayer when he was in his Pierrot alter ego and DJ's Super Sasja and TeaPot Phil and others all clowned up as well. The light show was guy waving the top of a Seabrooks crisp box in front of one solitary Super Trooper giving a very sad strobe effect. Michael was in charge at the Trop, can't remember the chef's name but he was always good for his Chicken Ala Carte, The Sands was good because the sound system comprised of Celestion Ditton 66 speakers, I'm sure the Trop installed Bose 901 at one point remember Garrard 301's and later Pioneer PL12 D's then Technics SP10's and SL1200's. Nelson was the place to be on a Friday Night and was only bettered in the late seventies by Tall Trees in Yarm. The venues were superb the music was diverse and good, Ohio Players Funky Worm is one to remember and forget with a sudo Granny Clampett Like nine cans of shaving powder, that's funky hook line. There was also a 'Drug Scene' with Quaalude and Sopor, Mandrax the occasional Lucy and there was always dude who would roast a joint. Never got involved as I had to drive. If I had the choose then or now? always be then every time. The Tomato Dip was always good for breakfast on Saturdays.
