Reece's Ballroom (Parker and Leigh Street, Liverpool)

Situated in the heart of the Liverpool, Reece's was a multi-floor restaurant. The first-floor cafeteria converted into a dance hall at weekends (perhaps more regularly in the early sixties). Negative aspect was getting the gear in the small lift.

The place is regarded as a Beatles historic site because it was the location for John and Cynthia's wedding breakfast. The place wasn't licensed to sell alcohol then so guests toasted them with water.

My Mother and Father met there in 1948 / 1949 They married in 1950. Mum lived till 1999 and my Dad lived till 2015

Before this there were Saturday night dances. I say dances; it was specifically dancing with soul music or Tamla Motown. This was probably before Northern soul associated with Wigan. Yes, conceded, Northern soul first gained wide popularity at Wigan but soul music dancing took place at Reeves ballroom Liverpool in the mid 1960s. Black young men though unfortunately few if any black girls were there. They performed a sort of moonwalk years before Michael Jackson showed his skills in 1983.

Reece's used to do a Thursday night 'Heavy Proms' about 1970? I saw Van Der Graaf Generator there. Went several times but cannot remember who else we saw.
