Mirrlees Social Club (Hazel Grove)

I am pretty sure this was the venue where I first saw one of my favourite bands Man. I think they had been booked as The Bystanders, a pop ground but shifted styles to underground rock. I think this would have been around 1968. My mates band were booked as opening act - hence my tag along presence.  I recall they played their riff laden 'Sudden Life' and a few weeks later I bought a copy of the 45 on Pye. I recall talking to some of the band backstage who explained that some of them were in the The Bystanders and had nothing positive to say about that band at all. I recall that the club was a works social club - Mirrlees was big engineering factory - bigger companies had they own works social clubs in those days! And it wasn't full house!
