Silver Blades Ice-rink (Cheetham Hill)

The Siver Blades Ice Rink was in Derby Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester 8.

Can you believe an ice rink being an 'in' place to go. Admittedly I was only 13 (1961) at the time, before I started going to all the night clubs in Manchester (aged 14).

I remember seeing the Brook Brothers at the Ice Rink. And being seriously impressed when they used to invite the speed skaters on to the ice!!

I saw Herman’s Hermits here in 1964/65. It was a great place to meet girls. I was a member of the Manchester Saints speed skaters and had the black bomber jacket with the saint symbol with halo on the back. Very happy days. I was 15 then, I’m 74 now. Time flies too fast.

My friend Sonia and I travelled from Ashton-under-Lyne By train and bus. We walked up from Central station. We carried our skates as a badge of pride, believe me very few skaters came from our town. I made a circular skirt of grey felt with white fur around the edge. Blackwatch tarten pants, with turquoise sweater. So cool. Some of my fondest memories. I'm almost 80 yrs. now but I still think of it. What a great time. Greetings to anyone from that time. 1955-60 ish.

Played there a couple of times with Outrage. Had a mishap with one of the drummers cymbals which came into contact with a young lady. We took a birthday cake the next time we played  as an apology and I think the Manchester Evening News took pictures of the presentation.
