ABC Ardwick

The ABC Ardwick was in Stockport Road, Ardwick Green, Manchester 12 and opened in 1962. The ABC Ardwick had originally opened as The Apollo Theatre on Monday, August 29, 1938 and had been opened by actress Margaret Lockwood (1916 - 1990). It was built for an independent operator and was designed by architects Peter Cummings (1879 - 1957) and Alex M. Irvine in the Art Deco style. The interior decorations were carried out by noted interior designers Mollo & Egan with the Holophane lighting designed by R. Gillespie Williams. On Sunday, January 31, 1943 The Apollo Theatre was taken over ABC. The Apollo Theatre was re-named The ABC Ardwick in 1962. On Sunday, January 30, 1977 The ABC Ardwick became an independent operator and later became The 02 Apollo Manchester. John H Warburg - October 2023
