Thos Reynolds - 43 Chapel St, Salford

"Mainly a 'brass band' shop but still one of the oldest music shops in town based in Salford. My Cousin Tom Cheadle worked there as an apprentice repairer from age 14 and stayed in the instrument business with Reynolds, Barratts and 'Band Instrument Supplies' in Leeds till he retired 6 years ago.

Dear Tom. Much missed. I enjoyed his friendship from the mid 1950s when I used to go to the shop with my dsd and made a mess of a cornet with some polish....

I have bought (lkng time ago) two instruments (trumpets?) one is engraved with T. REYNOLDS Senr & sons 43 chapel street Salford and it has number 106 engraved. The other one wich is larger is engraved with B then a engraved anchor folowed with a F. The number engraver in the middle from the three is 2039. This looks like early numbers ton me. Does anyone have more info. Please respond!

Bought my first electric from there (S/H) sadly I never learnt to play it and can't remember what happened to it.

Grew up on the north coast of west Cornwall in the '60s & early '70s. Played in school and local brass bands. At least once a year, 'Cheadle' would rock up at the school band hut in a large estate car - Ford I recall - crammed with brass instruments for return from, or collection for, repair. After a terrible experience with a 'new' Conn 88H at Xmas 1973 - you could see daylight through the soldered joints - somehow Cheadle found me a S/H 88H in spring '74. Most provident purchase I've ever made as it turns out it was made in Elkhart, Indiana, in '69. Still got the Reynolds invoice. Have just done an hour's practice on it this morning over 50 years later. Fond memories.

I have my dad's boys brigade bugle  it's engraved with T Reynolds 43 Chaple st Salford Manchester,  he had it from the mid 50's. It's well loved and kept shining but its got lots of dinks in it. Doe's anyone know if it's possible to get then knocked out? And where could I take it to get this done?
