Sonny Kaye and The Reds (Runcorn)

Runcorn based Sonny Kaye and The Reds notched up considerable success during their time together - winning the "Kings of the Big Beat" contest at New Brighton Tower Ballroom (a really major venue for Merseyside bands of the early sixties).

They also appeared on "Opportunity Knocks" in 1968, placing second.

"In 1961, I joined Sonny Kaye and The Reds (one of the area's leading groups) as the main bass player and appeared in many places including the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Also played with the most famous Beatles at the Queens Hall, and all top bands in Liverpool.

In the band was; Sonny Kaye (Frank Kennan) - the lead singer Tony Muffet - Rhythm Player, Ronald Quine-Bass Player, Harold Nelson - Saxophone Player, Billy Mullen-Lead Player, Harry Cosgreve - Drummer, Eric Hayes - Manager

We played together for four years always surprising our audience with a fantastic gig. "

My grandad Frank was sonny kaye ? Tracey is my mum, Dawn my auntie, Warren not long lost his life,my pain in the ass uncle haha Kevin still his baby, we very much together ?

I was married to Tony Moffatt I have a son Sean .
Tony died last Friday and we are so sad..The band was fantastic so professionall..Are there any more of the Reds left ?

My Father in Law was Harry Cotgreave, he unfortunately passed away on the 10th August 2022, at the age of 93. He was drummer with the band in the early years.

My dad Harry Cotgreave was a drummer in the band for some time still has the red drum sign that was on the front  on his drums . Dad is 93 in June and still tells me of the time in the band   they have spelt his name wrong it Cotgreave  not cosgrave

Used to store his drums at Runcorn Boys clubset up on stage used them in1968/69 (mimed) for charity gig he did,nt mind (don,t think) fantastic band
