Saints and Sinners

  • Diccon Hubbard - Bass
  • Alan Partington - Vocals

Mainly played pubs & youth clubs in Salford (usually Cross Lane - The Fusiliers/Northwestern/Bamboo Rooms/Craven Heifer/Falcon etc)

Also loads of auditions; The Limit, Middleton; Manchester Palais; The Boneyard Bolton;Princess Cinema, Monton - all usually without success, probably because we were crap!!

Diccon left this band to join The Rogues.

Memories

Unbelievable!! Can't believe this group and the photo is on the site.

It has to be the work of Mike Amatt (The Rogues, Mike Sweeney and the Thunderbyrds, The Salford Jets, Chugalug duo comprising of Mike Sweeney and Mike Amatt, The Mindbenders and many, many more).

I went to Salford Technical High School 1960 to 1965 with Mike Amatt, Diccon Hubbard on bass and Alan partington (vocalist).

The photo has brought back many happy memories. I haven't seen or spoken to any of these salfordian scalliwags since leaving school in 1965.

What are they upto now?

If you don't remember me, then have a look at "The Beatleague" on the site. I am Dave Anderton, the young drummer.

Happy days at Salford Tech or what?

P.s. I have lived in Rochdale since 1971 so I'm not a million miles away from my Salford roots

Dave Anderton -  The Beatleague - 19/4/10

I was amazed to find this website and the wealth of information about bands etc.. Still more surprised that there was a record of Saints and Sinners, including a photo! The information on the band is interesting- we had three from Salford Tech and Dave Lawrenson and i were at Salford Grammar. we used to practise in Dave's dad's newsagent shop on Cross lane, and later at the Falcon, Cross Lane. As the entry rightly says we played at pubs, mainly in the Cross Lane area. We also played at the Salford Direct Labour Club on Cross Lane, the Mission on Hodge Lane and at  a club in Middleton. Playing in the band was a great experience, not least because it got us into pubs under age and access to the rich pub life of Cross Lane. Our band broke up because all our gear was stolen from a pub. We had no way of replacing the gear. My memory is that we played through two Vox AC 30s. In the picture i am holding a Watkins Rapier that belonged to Alan Partington that he generously loaned to me. I would love to hear from any of the band, or anyone who remembers us. Dave Lawrenson is well and living in Rusholme. I live in Chorlton and have continued to play music..in later years jazz bass, and I currently play bass with the Dukes of Maslow ( see YouTube). What a brilliant website full of great memories !
