The Kon-Tiki's started life in the mid sixties. All members came from the Bury area and played gigs locally. Whilst the band members were all quite young, it was nevertheless a decent, tight sound for the time. We used to re-hearse in a small garage and drive the neighbours mad!

The band split up around 1966.

Dave Walker and Maurice Newton teamed up with Graham Latimer (ex. Strangeways Bass player) to form a band called 'Problem Solved'. This band split up after about a year or so and Dave went on to join 'Gerards Own' (formerly The Black Arrows).
Maurice joined Cleveland Fox.

Not sure where everyone is now, although Dave Walker moved to the Bournemouth area and still plays in a couple of bands in the area.

Maurice Newton plays regularly in couple of tribute acts in the Manchester area.

Hello Julie, so sorry to hear about your Dad.
It was a long time ago but I do remember your Dad being a nice, good natured person, and a decent lead guitarist. When the band split up I bought the Selmer amp off him and used it for years after.
I remember him getting married after we broke up but I didn’t know he carried on playing in other bands, although not surprised as he was a good player.
My condolences to you and your family.

Hi maurice. I’m Maurice berry’s daughter, he went on to join several other groups throughout the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately he passed away last week but his time playing the clubs of the north west was definitely a happy time in his life
